If you are living abroad or simply traveling outside the U.S., it’s a good idea to file your itenerary and to keep your foreign addresses up to date with the U.S. State Department.

To facilitate this, the State Department has launched a secure travel registration website that allows Americans to record both foreign trips and residence information that the Department can use to communicate with you the event of an emergency.  The State Department recommends that you register at this new site even if you have already registered with an  Embassy and make sure to keep your record updated and to provide an email address so you can receive informational e-mails from U.S. Embassies, which include security warnings, travel advisories, tax and voting information, and consular services notices.
